We would like to introduce to you:
The Show, Drum and Brass band Irene Lucia.

After World War II, based on the military bands, amateur bands started to appear in Western Europe. Due to scarcity the first bands merely existed of percussion instruments. Clarions were added later on.
In the years, many of these (fortunately not all) clarion bands switched to valve instruments. The main reason for this switch was the increase of music possibilities for the bands. Another reason was that there was a limited offer of new compositions, which forced many clarion bands to make that switch.
A Drum and Brass band is a music company existing only of percussionists and brass players. Music is always made together.

Show band Irene-Lucia
Show band Irene-Lucia is a band consisting of a brass-band, drum-band and majorettes- group.
The band is a fusion of former bands Irene and Lucia, both from Beek.
The band is well known in the province of Limburg, where it performs regularly on annual events like Carnival and “Koninginnendag” (Day of the Queen), organises  concerts and will brighten church services with their music. Besides annual parades in Limburg, Irene-Lucia was also invited to many international events in Belgium France and Germany throughout the years. In 2002 the band participated in the “Tournament of the Low Lands” in Belgium and won first prize. This encouraged the band to participate in a Tournament in Austria in 2003, where again they achieved great success by winning two first prizes; in the marching competition and the show competition. The band is now getting ready to participate in the biggest competition yet, the WMC (World Music Concourse) in Heerlen.

A drum-brass band is a band whose main goal is: making music in open-air settings. On the street (in parades) and on squares (.........) you will be able to see a drum-brass band and listen to a drum- brass band in the setting it was essentially created for. This shows the band to its full advantage. However, this does not insinuate the band can never play in a hall or church, on the contrary, our drum-brass band can be seen on a regular basis at indoor events or in churches.

More information in English coming up next time!!!
